On the 13th, 14th and 15th of February 1997, the American Academy in Rome, with the University of Rome "La Sapienza," organized a conference on the transformations of Rome in late antiquity.

The contributions of archaeological interest were about domus (by F. Guidobaldi), urban topography (by L. Ermini-Pani) and ports, trade and "trade-dumps" of Rome in late antiquity (F. De Caprariis, C. Panella and E. Fentress). These last contributions made it possible to know the different trade-areas of the town, the old ones and the new ones.
